You will need: a doll with hair that needs to be washed, a sink, shampoo, conditioner, two cotton balls, tape, an AG Doll hair brush, a towel, and (optional: for dolls with curly hair) an unsharpened pencil and a bunch of bobby pins.
First off, to protect your dolls eyes, put two cotton balls over her eyes and tape them onto her head. You may also want to wrap a towel around your dolls body, if you are younger, so that you don't get her body wet.
Get your water running to a lukewarm temperature and then get all of your dolls hair wet. Make sure your water is not too hot!!!!
Put some shampoo in your hand, and rub it into your dolls hair.
Rinse it all out very thoroughly, especially making sure it is all rinsed out on her scalp.
Next, get a big glob of conditioner in your hand and rub it into your dolls hair, especially in the dry areas. Make sure you use a lot because this is what makes your dolls hair so soft and not tangled. The more you use, the better your dolls hair will be. Rinse it out thoroughly, focusing mainly on getting it all rinsed out on her scalp.
(Why does my hand look so red in this picture?! I swear, it's not that red! )
Squeeze her hair out by gathering it all like you are going to put it into a ponytail and squeezing - DON'T PULL!!!! Move your hand farther down the hair and squeeze. Just keep doing that until you are at the end of the hair. Use this same method when you squeeze out her hair while washing it. Wrap her hair in a towel and leave it in there for about 5-10 minutes.
After that, lay your doll on a dresser or table (somewhere where nobody will mess with her) with her hair hanging over the edge and brush it out. Then, just let it dry.
These next steps are optional. For curly haired dolls, just style their hair like normal, like I could have, or follow this method I used that gives your doll gorgeous curls!
Take a section of hair (the bigger the section, the bigger the curl, and the less curls on her head).
Get your pencil, wrap the ends of her hair around it, and roll it up all the way to the top if her head.
Stick a bobby pin in it to hold it in place.
Do that all over her head, and this is what it should look like.
Even more optional: straightening

If you want your doll with straight hair to have nicer looking hair and ends, then you can straighten it. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PARENTS PERMISSION BEFORE DOING THIS BECAUSE IT CAN MELT YOUR DOLLS HAIR IF YOU DO IT WRONG!!!!!!!!!
Make sure your straightener has heat settings!!!!! This is VERY important, and if your straightener does not have heat settings, then DO NOT do this!!!! Set your heat setting to the lowest one (preferably, have a straightener with a heat setting of 1) and turn it on.
Grab a section of hair.
When straightening her hair, make sure to run your straightener QUICKLY down her hair, not slowly! Straighten each section until it is nice and smooth. Do thus to all her hair, and you are done!
Let me just tell you, all of my dolls hair is sooooo much softer and nicer now and I love it! I totally recommend doing this, it's definitely worth it!
For curly haired dolls, take the curlers out after letting them dry for at least a day. Just look at those gorgeous curls!!!
